No physician needs to become a software engineer. That's not what's changed. What's changed is that AI coding tools have made it possible for a clinician with zero technical background to build a working app from an idea, without hiring a development team first, without a computer science degree, and without months of ramp up.
That's a different question than "should I learn to code" in the old sense. The honest case for it: if you have a clinical idea you keep describing to people instead of building, the barrier that used to stop you (needing to learn programming from scratch) is mostly gone. The honest case against it: if you have no idea you're trying to build, learning to code for its own sake isn't a good use of a physician's limited time.
